The painting was commissioned as a birthday present and was to be kept secret. This is how I have communicated with a client in discreet text messages and slightly coded messages.
An interesting process and we are very satisfied with the result. Not the east coast seas I normally do, new tube of oil paint was bought in – indigo blue. With it as a new base, I have created a different kind of sea than before, at least if you look at the deeper blue shades.
My own first step was to sketch the subject in Photoshop.
Of course we'll have a guy in the picture. But what rock should it stand on?
we put it a little further away. An extra sliver grows towards the horizon. It gives balance to the composition..
This subject would do well to be cropped a bit more elongated, more of a panorama to the proportions.
The first brushstrokes, outdoors in good weather.
The color of the sky is mixed
...and is spread out, even in the water where part of the roundel of the waves should reasonably reflect part of the sky.
Closes the painting shop for the evening. Good first evening in the late summer heat.
Continuation indoors in the studio, it rained a few evenings.
Now it's all starting to take shape.
The painting is done!
Delivery, through bulvans, secret of course.
